Timber! – Sculptures by Morgan Kinne
Morgan Kinne is a sculptor whose work blends material history with conceptual storytelling, creating spaces where imagination and reflection meet. Her exhibition, Timber!, is a sculptural response to what it means to live in a changing world. Using materials salvaged from a historic cottage now surrounded by growth and investment, the work reflects on home, memory, development and change - with a touch of whimsy and hope for the future. “No structure lasts forever - it is changed by its relationship to humans and the landscape” says Kinne. The pieces in Timber! invite the viewer to play, reflect, and connect. The tension between permanence and impermanence, memory and progress, shelter and exposure - raise collective questions about what we build, preserve or leave behind.
Morgan Kinne holds a BFA in Sculpture from Winthrop University and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Edinburgh. Originally from Rock Hill, SC, she lived in Europe studying traditional sculpture techniques and contemporary art practices, building a deep knowledge of the foundations of contemporary art practice as well as art history and contemporary art theory. She has exhibited in galleries, mounted installations, and presented performances and shows in the US, UK, and Europe. She currently serves as professor of sculpture and 3D design at the College of Charleston, teaches sculpture at Ashley Ridge High School, and serves as the sculpture studio manager at the College of Charleston. She has lived and worked in Charleston since 2014. Learn more about the artist at morgankinne.com.
Don’t Be Shy – Mixed Media Works by Chris Harmon
In his vibrant exhibition, Don't Be Shy, contemporary figurative artist Chris Harmon celebrates the courage of rebuking societal expectations to find joy in the raw edges and textures of humanity. Don't Be Shy features a collection of figurative drawings and paintings that embrace unexpected combinations of color, texture, and material through expressive realism with geometric patterns and abstract elements, with each work capturing moments of contemplation, sensuality, discovery, and dynamism. Bold colors, animalistic scratches, geometry, and radial patterns create modern pin-ups with deep reverence for the human form.
Johns Island-based artist Chris Harmon was born in Florida and grew up in southern West Virginia. In 2008, he graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree focusing on sculpture with a minor in business administration. He has over 15 years of experience in commercial graphic design work. Seeking to break out of the digital realm and return to his roots in physical media, he reignited his passion for figurative art at the beginning of 2024. Harmon’s current work places the beauty of the human form against abstract explorations of texture, pattern, and material. Tapping into his prior education in sculpture, he is enticed by the concept of paintings as objects. He experiments with unusual substrates and materials such as cement and often attaches objects in and around the surface of his work. Inspired by contemporary artists such as Jeremy Mann, Soey Milk and Rosso, Harmon is energized by the conflict between the pure beauty of the model within an abstract and often distressed environment.
