Palmetto Choral Collective, a nonprofit offering inclusive, secular, audition-free community choirs for youth and adults, has announced its expansion into the Park Circle area of North Charleston. The James Island-based organization has added a satellite location for weekly rehearsals to serve the two oldest age groups in its youth choir.
The organization has partnered with the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery to use its facilities at 4701 Park Place West in North Charleston.
Palmetto Choral Collective has hired two new assistant directors, Driq Graves and Shelby Krallman, to help accommodate its growth and teach at the new satellite location.
Park Circle rehearsals will take place Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., beginning Aug. 20, 2026, and continuing throughout the season, which runs through spring 2027. The location will serve students in grades 3-6 (Intermezzo) and grades 7-12 (Evoluto). The grades K-2 group (Primo) will continue to be offered only at the original James Island location on Monday afternoons but will likely be added to the Park Circle location in fall 2027.
Artistic Director Danielle Loveless said, "After a wildly successful first four seasons on James Island, we are happy to accommodate requests for a more centralized location for some of the youth who can't get over to James Island in time for rehearsals after school. We will keep all of our current programming on Mondays on James Island, but we look forward to reaching even more people with our 'people-first' model, which strives for excellence while emphasizing kindness in the learning process."
Choir members will perform at events throughout Charleston County, including self-produced concerts and collaborations with other organizations such as the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Taylor Festival Choir. Members will learn music literacy, vocal technique and musicianship while developing foundational life skills.
Tuition assistance and scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the monthly fee. Tuition covers weekly instruction, all sheet music, learning resources, performance opportunities and special activities.
Palmetto Choral Collective is hosting an open house for prospective members at its new Park Circle location on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Free ice cream will be available for all attendees.
Executive Director Regina Ruopoli said, "This open house is a casual opportunity to meet our wonderful team, see the beautiful space and experience what our rehearsals are like. We make it a priority to help everyone feel comfortable and joyful singing together. Our members develop not only vocal skills and music literacy but also become part of a wonderfully creative community that supports connection and self-expression."
