The City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce Amy Stewart of North Charleston, SC, as the winner of the 2025 North Charleston Arts Fest Poster Design Competition. As the winner of the statewide contest, Stewart’s abstract mixed media painting, titled Intersections, will be used to promote the 2025 North Charleston Arts Fest, taking place April 30-May 4. In addition, the artist was awarded a $1000 cash prize and the piece has become part of the City of North Charleston’s Public Art Collection.
Thirty-nine artists working in 12 cities across South Carolina submitted 83 entries for consideration for the 2025 North Charleston Arts Fest Poster Design Competition. Stewart submitted two entries, each colorfully reflecting the human spirit in motion, full of rhythm and joy. Her winning work, Intersections, symbolizes how our paths cross with others throughout our lives. From the people we meet in passing—like an artist at a festival—to the deep connections formed with family, friends, or even teachers and mentors, these intersections shape who we are and our experiences. “If we think about it, every encounter, whether brief or significant, is a potential intersection,” Stewart explains. “The ripple effect of our actions on others and vice versa creates a network of connections that we may never fully comprehend but are undeniably part of our shared human experience.”
Amy Stewart currently works and teaches in her backyard studio and instructs various visual art courses at Fort Dorchester High School. Drawing inspiration from map coordinates, her art intertwines personal experiences with abstract forms, inviting viewers to embark on a journey through both physical space and memory. Her goal is for viewers to connect with both the personal and universal elements within each line, shape, and gesture. Amy’s work has been exhibited in exhibitions in Greenville and Summerville, SC, and she has offered art instruction at the middle, high school, and college level. She and her wife live in North Charleston with their 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 hens, 1 dove, 2 finches, and 2 tortoises. They are currently transforming a 40-foot school bus into a moveable, teaching studio/residence. Learn more about the artist at amystewartart.com.
