New Muse Concerts will present a program of string quartets on Sunday, May 18 at 4 p.m. at Principle Gallery Charleston, for a special price of $15.
Violinists Lydia Chernicoff and Jessica Tong, violist Dan Urbanowicz, and cellist Danielle Cho will present an afternoon of string quartets in which they'll perform the Molto Adagio from Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 132, as well as living, Arabic-American composer Mohammed Fairouz's quartet, The Named Angels. Each movement of Fairouz's quartet paints a portrait of one of the angels named in the Islamic, Christian, and Jewish traditions — angels who embody justice, power, kindness, healing, and death.
Violinist Lydia Chernicoff, the Artistic Director of New Muse, has also announced that the May 18 concert will be the organization's last presentation in Charleston, as she and her family are relocating to Berkshire County, Massachusetts. "We hope you'll join us at Principle Gallery to celebrate the end of our joyous tenure in Charleston with this wonderful program," said Chernicoff, "New Muse has been thrilled to contribute our own unique take on chamber music programming to the rich and varied Charleston music scene over these past six years. We couldn't have done it without the enthusiastic and generous participation of the Charleston community, and I will be forever grateful."
