Local comedy outfit Nameless Numberhead is announcing a sweeping new run of shows for spring 2026, including monthly Disruptor Improv Comedy shows, the return of Rip City on a Boat and the highly anticipated comeback of eXcess boXes, an all-women sketch comedy and local giveaway show.
These are in addition to continued monthly performances of the highly acclaimed sketch comedy/variety show Rip City, which has been a staple of the underground arts scene in Charleston for the past 10 years.
The expanded lineup is part of Nameless Numberhead’s mission to “keep artistic growth on pace with commercial development in Charleston.”
“A nearly impossible task,” said Henry Riggs, co-founder of Nameless Numberhead. “We aren’t sure how to do that yet, but if we just keep saying it and putting up the kinds of shows we wish existed in Charleston, we think it could catch on. You’ve got to admit, it’s a pretty catchy idea.”
Nameless co-founder Maari Suorsa is leading the return of eXcess boXes.
“We’re baaaaaaaaaack!” Suorsa said.
After a six-year hiatus, Charleston’s lady-led sketch comedy show is returning. eXcess boXes is a fast-paced, character-driven comedy show featuring an all-women cast. The twist is that it also includes large audience giveaways. Each show partners with local makers to showcase Charleston-based businesses and artists.
“The sketch comedy show is a Trojan horse for us to give big-ticket items away to the audience,” Suorsa said.
During its last two performances, the show gave away local goods totaling more than $1,000 in retail value, including a backpack from J. Stark, candles from Candlefish, cards from Ink Meets Paper, Italian loafers from Thelma, original artwork by Kate Ritchie, a coffee package from Sightsee and more.
The original run of eXcess boXes played to sold-out crowds at the Tin Roof before ending in March 2020. The relaunch performance will take place April 11 at Silver Hill Studio in Park Circle and will continue monthly throughout the year.
“Your tear ducts will be empty from cry-laughing, but your hands will be full of amazing gifts,” Suorsa said. “Don’t miss it.”
The Numberheads are also expanding their partnership with Silver Hill Studio, a local photography studio and event space. The collaboration includes continued runs of Rip City, eXcess boXes and a new series of monthly improv comedy shows featuring Disruptor, the house improv team at Rip City.
These improv shows will take place monthly on Monday nights, offering an opportunity for hospitality workers and others who may not be available on weekends to attend.
“We have so many folks who want to see shows and Saturdays can be tricky,” Riggs said. “We’re trying out a little Monday night staple. It should be a fun, casual hang with good laughs to boot.”
In addition to the expansion at Silver Hill Studio, Rip City will return to Charleston Harbor for the popular Rip City on a Boat. For the event, organizers charter a harbor tour boat for a comedy show and sunset cruise in Charleston Harbor.
“You get all the antics of Rip City with all the beauty and charm of the Holy City,” organizers said. “This is always a fun way for locals to experience the city the way visitors do.”
The event typically sells out, and organizers encourage early ticket purchases.
The group is also expanding its film showcase. For the past three years, Nameless Numberhead has hosted Rip City at the Movies, a night of local short films and music videos at the Terrace Theatre.
This year, the group will present a “Best of Rip City at the Movies” screening April 16, featuring selections from the past three years. Organizers hope the event will encourage aspiring filmmakers to submit work for the annual showcase in August.
“We are so excited about all of these events and hope we can encourage the next generation of artists and audiences to find the things that make this city unique and fun,” organizers said.
