On Thursday, Oct. 22, Walk Through will transform the Gibbes Museum of Art into a one-night fine art exhibition and salon featuring nationally recognized artists, live artistic creation and original works available for acquisition in support of My Sister's House.
Curated by Kacey Gustafson, founder and creative director of CINÉ Creative House, and co-produced by event planners Olivia Niemeyer and Hannah Cassibry, Walk Through explores the universal human experience of beginning again through three chapters: Reclamation, Resilience and Renewal. Those themes reflect the mission of My Sister's House, which for more than 45 years has helped survivors of domestic violence and their children reclaim their lives through safety, healing and hope.
Guests will move through a sequence of galleries, each revealing a new chapter of the exhibition's story. Rather than presenting artwork as individual pieces, Walk Through invites guests to experience a carefully curated narrative exploring healing, renewal and the possibility of beginning again. As they progress through the experience, the artwork, lighting and sound evolve, creating an immersive journey that culminates in the Lenhardt Garden, where selected artists will create original works live throughout the evening. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, observe their creative process and watch new works come to life.
A dedicated reflection space will share the lived experiences of survivors of domestic violence, creating a powerful connection between the exhibition's artistic journey and the life-changing work of My Sister's House.
"Walk Through reminds us that healing is not a single moment but a journey," said Mary Nemeth, director of development for My Sister's House. "One in three women nationwide will experience domestic violence during their lifetime. Here in South Carolina, that number jumps to nearly one in two, making our state one of the places most deeply affected by this crisis. Events like Walk Through create opportunities for our community to better understand the realities of domestic violence while celebrating the strength, resilience and hope of survivors."
Every work featured in Walk Through will be available for acquisition, with 50% of each sale supporting the life-changing programs of My Sister's House. The full list of participating artists, collector programming and salon details will be announced in the coming weeks.
"Art can give form to experiences that are difficult to put into words," Gustafson said. "Walk Through creates space for those experiences to be felt individually and understood collectively. My hope is that guests leave having engaged with extraordinary work, connected with the artists behind it and discovered just how much of themselves they can find in someone else's story."
Tickets for Walk Through will be available beginning Aug. 1. To purchase tickets, explore partnership opportunities or learn more, visit mysistershouse.org.
