The Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) proudly presents Miles and Coltrane at 100, a powerful tribute honoring the centennial of two of the most influential figures in jazz history: Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Both born in 1926, Davis and Coltrane redefined the sound of modern jazz through their groundbreaking artistry and unforgettable collaborations.
From Davis’ cool, understated lyricism on trumpet to Coltrane’s intensely expressive “sheets of sound” on saxophone, their partnership in the 1950s and 60s produced some of the most celebrated recordings in jazz history, including Kind of Blue, ’Round About Midnight, and Milestones. Their innovations continue to shape the sound of jazz and inspire generations of musicians.
This special 90-minute performance (presented without intermission) will feature the 18-member Charleston Jazz Orchestra, celebrating the enduring legacy of these two icons while highlighting the rich musical heritage of South Carolina.
This performance is made possible in part by MUSC.
