Meyer Vogl Gallery will welcome the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast (PAP-SE) for a special week of painting and events in the Charleston area, culminating with a reception on Friday, Oct. 16, and a public QuickDraw on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.
Throughout the week, PAP-SE members will paint on location across the Charleston area, creating new work en plein air, a traditional method of painting directly from the landscape rather than in a studio. The resulting collection of fresh, “wet” paintings will be presented at Meyer Vogl Gallery’s Daniel Island location during a reception Friday evening, where the new work can be viewed and purchased.
On Saturday morning, artists of all ages are invited to participate in PAP-SE’s QuickDraw, a timed painting event taking place on Daniel Island from 9 to 11 a.m. Participants will have two hours to create a work on location, while visitors are invited to walk the area, observe artists at work and experience the painting process as it unfolds. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by an awards presentation at 12:30 p.m.
The event reflects PAP-SE’s mission to bring together professional plein-air painters through a shared commitment to painting from life while introducing the tradition to a broader community. Young artists are especially encouraged to participate, with registration fees for artists under 18 sponsored by PAP-SE members.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Jonathan Green Maritime Cultural Center at the University of South Carolina, with 10% of artwork sales donated to support the organization.
The PAP-SE reception and exhibition will be held Friday, Oct. 16, at Meyer Vogl Gallery’s Daniel Island location, 250 River Landing Drive. The event is open to the public.
The QuickDraw will take place Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in and around Meyer Vogl Gallery and the Daniel Island waterfront area. To participate, register online at pap-se.com.
