Charleston-based filmmaker Shaughn Tillman, former director of creative film at Seacoast Church and founder of his own production company, has been named director of the upcoming feature film The Last Sunrise. The project, written by Blu de Golyer, is a deeply personal drama set to be filmed in Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
Tillman brings more than a decade of visual storytelling experience to the project, having led Seacoast Church’s film department, where his work reached audiences across the Southeast and beyond. Known for emotionally grounded storytelling and cinematic visuals, Tillman now steps into the feature film space with a story rooted in the place he calls home.
“This is the first time ever that I read a script from someone who I didn’t really know and the story completely drew me in,” said Tillman. “I really think this is a movie that, even though it’s independent and shot with less money than you would normally shoot a movie with a story of this caliber, the way we’re going to approach it is going to create a lot of buzz for the film, and people are going to be excited that it was shot in the Lowcountry.
The Last Sunrise follows Ty Duncan, a Charleston husband, father and artist whose ordinary, love-filled life is forever changed by sudden tragedy. Set against familiar Lowcountry streets, neighborhoods and coastal landscapes, the film explores grief, resilience and the quiet strength required to keep going when life breaks apart.
