Lowcountry Artists Gallery will present “From Trash to Treasures,” a solo exhibition by Patsy Tidwell-Painton, throughout March.
The exhibition features a new collection of work exploring the transformation of discarded materials and personal memory through art. Elements that might once have been overlooked or thrown away are layered, reworked and reimagined, gaining renewed purpose and meaning.
Through texture, assemblage and thoughtful composition, the pieces reflect the belief that what one person sees as refuse can become another’s treasure. The collection invites viewers to look closely and reconsider the overlooked, reminding them that beauty and value can be rediscovered.
Artist statement and bio
From early childhood, Tidwell-Painton felt a strong desire to create with her hands — a calling that has guided her throughout her life. Now 85, she rises at 5 a.m. each day eager to begin painting or crafting handmade books.
She has long believed that “Life is a puzzle … you are the master meant to discover its meaning.” Living with deep gratitude, she credits the knowledge gained from hundreds of instructors and mentors who shaped her creative path.
At this stage of life, she said her greatest wish is to share the joy she has experienced through art. She paints “from her heart through her hands” and gives thanks each day for the gift of creativity.
Lowcountry Artists Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. More information is available at lowcountryartistsgallery.com.
