Lowcountry Artists Gallery will present “Chasing the Light,” an exhibition featuring the colorful, light-inspired works of impressionist Merrie McNair. An opening reception will be held Friday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.
McNair is an impressionistic painter whose work celebrates color, light and the beauty of the natural world. Her paintings capture scenes of the Lowcountry, from sunsets over tidal creeks to light dancing on the water, highlighting the quiet poetry of nature.
In “Chasing the Light,” McNair explores the fleeting and luminous qualities of light through her expressive use of color, texture and intuitive brushwork. The collection reflects an appreciation for everyday moments and often-overlooked glimpses of beauty.
With a background in interior design spanning more than 35 years, McNair brings a strong sense of balance, composition and texture to her work.
“Light is always shifting, always inviting us to see things differently,” McNair said.
In addition to impressionistic landscapes, McNair also explores abstraction, allowing intuition and emotion to guide her brush.
The exhibition features Lowcountry-inspired oil paintings, including sailboats, coastal landscapes and representational abstracts. Many of the works also explore themes of hope, presence and resilience, with a spiritual undertone centered on the persistence of light in uncertain moments.
Lowcountry Artists Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
