Local artist and author Audrey Straus will host a watercolor class and book signing event inspired by her new book, Native Plants of Kiawah Island, on Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at the Treehouse Activity Center in Night Heron Park at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, offering a creative, nature-inspired experience just ahead of Mother’s Day.
The morning will begin with a guided watercolor class on the Treehouse’s back patio, where Straus will lead the group in painting native plants featured throughout the book, followed by an 11 a.m. book signing on the front lawn. Designed as both a creative workshop and an intimate artist experience, the event will allow attendees to create their own artwork while learning about the plants that define the Lowcountry. Tickets are $100 and available for purchase online here. Tickets include all materials, wine and non-alcoholic beverages to sip throughout the class, a signed copy of the book and finished watercolor paintings to take home.
The event draws from Straus’ 375-page book Native Plants of Kiawah Island, using an interactive class to bring its botanical artwork to life and connect guests with the island’s natural landscape. Guests will also have the opportunity to experience Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Treehouse Activity Center, a recently introduced space that hosts creative, educational and family-friendly programming.
