HALSO and Landmarks for Families will co-host the 2025 Changemaker’s Luncheon on September 3, 2025 at The Cedar Room (700 East Bay Street, Suite 200), beginning at 11:30 am. The event will feature Sixto Cancel (pictured), founder and CEO of Think of Us.
“HALOS is honored to partner in this event that brings Sixto Cancel, Founder and CEO of Think of Us, to our community,” said Ericka Plater, Board Chair of HALOS. “Sixto brings both the expertise of a national thought leader and the wisdom of lived experience. His voice reminds us that transformation in child and family well-being is not only possible, it’s urgent. We are excited to shine a light on the innovative ways our community can take action to support children and caregivers.”
Cancel grew up in foster care and has committed his life to driving change in that industry. He has served as an advisor to the White House, Congress, and major child welfare agencies nationwide. He has successfully shaped policy to be more youth-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive of the voices of those directly impacted by the foster care system.
“Landmarks for Families has a long history of caring for children and families across our region, and we are proud to continue that legacy through this event,” said Peter Barton, Board Chair of Landmarks for Families. “At the Changemakers Luncheon, more than 150 of our community's leaders are gathering together to learn about best practices and begin to build bold solutions that support and cultivate thriving families for children and families in the Lowcountry and beyond.”
