Jerry Cantrell, the musician perhaps best known as the founder, lead guitarist, co-lead vocalist, and main songwriter of the rock band Alice in Chains, will perform at The Refinery on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Platinum-selling band Filter will open the show.
Cantrell, along with Alice in Chains, emerged from the Seattle grunge scene in the late 1980s. His collaborations with the band's late frontman Layne Staley—became central to the band’s signature sound. Alice in Chains rose to prominence with critically acclaimed albums like Facelift (1990), Dirt (1992), and Jar of Flies (1994), cementing their place among the grunge era’s most influential acts.
Following Staley’s death in 2002, Cantrell continued to lead the band, eventually reuniting with new vocalist William DuVall. The band has since released several well-received albums, including Black Gives Way to Blue (2009) and Rainier Fog (2018).
In addition to his work with Alice in Chains, Cantrell has released solo albums such as Boggy Depot (1998) and Degradation Trip (2002). Widely respected for his guitar work and emotive lyrics, Cantrell is regarded as one of the defining figures in alternative metal and grunge.
Filter, which was formed in Cleveland back in 1993 is best know for their singles “Hey Man Nice Shot” and “Take a Picture.” The band's first two albums (1995's Short Bus and 1999's Title of Record) went Platinum.
