The College of Charleston Orchestra welcomes back world-renowned, award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich in a performance of Brahms’ Violin Concerto. The concert also spotlights music major Katie Banish, who will perform a movement of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. The evening will be rounded out with an orchestral feature of Finlandia by Sibelius.
The concert is conducted by Yuriy Bekker – acclaimed violinist, conductor and Artistic Director of the Charleston Symphony and faculty member of the College of Charleston’s Department of Music. Expertly familiar with high level performances, Bekker comments, “In preparation for performances like this, I have been studying the score for a while. As a violinist, I am no stranger to Brahms' Violin Concerto, having spent three decades listening to it and accompanying many violinists in my career. It is very exciting to conduct this monumental work, and I look forward to witnessing the growth that the students will experience by performing it alongside Augustin Hadelich.”
This will be Hadelich’s second time performing at the College of Charleston, his first time being in March 2022 when he brilliantly played his rendition of Tchaikovsky’s lush and virtuosic Violin Concerto, op. 35.
“I am very honored that Augustin Hadelich will join the College of Charleston Orchestra again,” says Bekker. “This is an incredible opportunity for our students to share the stage with a violin superstar for a second time.”
Bekker articulates, “The College of Charleston Orchestra continues to grow, and hosting notable artists on an annual basis advances our goal of providing professional opportunities for our student musicians. It's very important for students to witness his skill and talent. It encourages them to work harder and play better, and overall, his presence elevates the quality of the orchestra. Listening to Hadelich perform is something the students will remember forever, and it will shape their personal relationship with the music.”
DETAILS: Not only is Hadelich’s return performance exciting for the orchestra, but it is an incredible opportunity for the audience.
