The TransEd Foundation and Charleston Trucking Expo are introducing the first Truck Driver Appreciation Weekend 2025, a new event celebrating the vital role of truck drivers while engaging the community through scholarships, family fun, community service and a career fair.
The event coincides with National Truck Driver Appreciation Week on Sept. 20. A career fair will follow on Sept. 30.
Community Day: Celebration and Service
On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., families and community members are invited to Truck Driver Appreciation Community Day at Ladson Exchange Park (9850 U.S.-78, Ladson, S.C.). Admission is $10 per person, and kids attend free.
Community Day highlights include:
- All-you-can-eat crab feast (12–2 p.m., $10 per person).
- Scholarships: Several $500 CDL scholarships will be awarded to local individuals and students pursuing or expanding careers in transportation. Two scholarships are donated by Supply Line 360 of Atlanta.
- Kids Zone: Sponsored in part by Bricks & Minifigs Charleston, the kids zone will feature STEM activities with LEGOs, an RC semi-truck tournament, bounce houses, face painting and a touch-a-truck experience.
- Entertainment: Music by DJ Trip, plus line dancing throughout the day.
- Community service: Youth-led nonprofit Blankies 4 My Buddies will lead a homeless relief kit packing project, giving attendees a chance to make a difference while they celebrate.
- Industry voices: The African American Women in Trucking Association (AAWTA) will participate, along with drivers including TikTok influencer @Trucky_Mac from Atlanta.
- Food and vendors: BBQ, fried fish, food trucks, sweet treats and a variety of local artisans and small businesses.
“This weekend is about honoring the men and women who keep the world moving while also making space for families, community members and kids to connect with opportunity,” said Corisa Carter, founder of the Charleston Trucking Expo and the TransEd Foundation. “We’re proud to bring scholarships, service projects and community celebration into one place. It’s about uplifting the next generation while recognizing the drivers who keep America on the road.”
Truck Driver Appreciation Weekend builds on the Charleston Trucking Expo’s tradition of honoring the industry by creating a full-scale community celebration. With scholarships for future drivers, workforce development through the career fair and hands-on service projects, the event embodies the theme of honoring drivers while building the future of transportation.
