The Miller Gallery is proud to announce "Dos Miradas," a two-person art exhibition showcasing the works of acclaimed artists Laura Dargan and Kate Hooray Osmond. The exhibition will open on February 20th and run until February 31st, offering visitors an evocative exploration of place and perspective.
The exhibition presents paintings created during the artists' residency in Jilotepec, Mexico, where the vibrant surroundings and cultural richness catalyzed their distinctive artistic expressions. "Dos Miradas," meaning "Two Views" in Spanish, captures the complementary yet unique perspectives of the two artists as they translate their experiences in Mexico into vivid and thought-provoking works. The artists draw upon their immersion in the southern desert landscape and their experiences of ancient Toltec history and contemporary festival culture.
Laura Dargan, known for her large-scale abstracted and surreal landscapes and grounded embodied figures, invites viewers to step into dreamlike environments. Her bold use of form and texture evokes a sense of wonder and introspection, reflecting the profound beauty and complexity of the natural world.
Kate Hooray Osmond brings her signature bright, colorful depictions of places and people to the exhibition. Her works celebrate the vibrancy of life and community, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary narratives through her dynamic compositions.
"Dos Miradas" offers a dialogue between the two artists, showcasing their shared experiences while highlighting their distinct creative approaches. The result is a captivating collection that invites viewers to explore the interplay of memory, imagination, and place.
The Miller Gallery is located at 1640 Meeting Street Road Ste. 102, Charleston, SC 29405. A public reception will accompany the exhibition on Thursday, February 20th from 5-7pm, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists and gain insights into their creative processes.
