The dogs are getting the water parks all to themselves once again! Charleston County Parks’ annual Dog Day Afternoon returns this August and September, inviting canine guests to enjoy one last swim of the season at Splash Island, Splash Zone and Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark after the parks close for regular operations.
Each event features two timed sessions — from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. — during which dogs can enjoy the pools, splash features and lazy rivers while spending time with their owners.
Dates at each park are:
- Aug. 15 at Splash Island Waterpark in Mount Pleasant
- Aug. 15 at Splash Zone Waterpark on James Island
- Sept. 13 at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark in North Charleston
Once inside the water park, dogs are welcome to roam off-leash, though owners are responsible for supervising their pets at all times.
Event details:
- Swimming is for dogs only. Human guests should not enter the water beyond ankle depth.
- Dogs must have current rabies, distemper, parvo and Bordetella vaccinations.
- Puppies younger than 6 months and female dogs in season are not permitted.
- Dogs should be familiar with swimming before attending.
- Outside food and beverages are not allowed inside the pool area.
- Fresh drinking water will be available for dogs throughout the event.
- Concessions for human guests will be available in designated areas.
- Owners are encouraged to walk their dogs before entering the park and avoid trimming their nails immediately before the event.
Admission is $15 per dog when purchased in advance and $20 per dog on the day of the event if space remains. Human admission is included with each registered dog. Advance registration is recommended, as sessions frequently sell out.
