A new show from the producer of Charleston’s sold-out sensation Midlife Monologues is coming to PURE Theatre for one night only, Oct. 14.
Pass the Mic for Perimenopause, like its predecessor, features an award-winning ensemble cast sharing stories — comedy, music and poetry — on a woman’s journey. Performers include two New York comedians, Casey Balsham and Carole Montgomery (Showtime’s Funny Women of a Certain Age); bestselling author Mary Laura Philpott; and Charleston artists including singers Tonya Nicole, Jenna Desmond and Zandrina Dunning; authors Gervais Hagerty and Jaclyn Michelle Smith (I’m Sorry I Cremated You); and essayist Kerri Devine.
“We’re exposing the raw humor and truth women in their 30s, 40s and 50s need now,” said Devine, founder of Hot in Charleston and the show’s producer. It marks a quick return to the stage for Devine with longtime partner PURE Theatre, just six months after staging a show critics called “powerful,” “unforgettable” and “pure joy.”
A second 8:30 p.m. performance of Pass the Mic was recently added after the first show sold out. The show runs one hour. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for a free art show and reception presented by Meyer Vogl and Redux Art Center, highlighting artists whose work reflects the woman’s journey.
