CofC Stages at the College of Charleston’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents its fall dance concert, What Comes Next. Choreographed by faculty and guest artists, this collection of dances portrays the department’s 2024-25 season theme, “Old Is New Again,” – challenging us through old and new ideas, allowing discovery about the world and ourselves.
Audiences will experience the thrill of the unknown as the production explores the ever-unfolding possibilities of what’s to come. Featuring choreography by faculty and guest artists, this concert celebrates our diversity as we look to the future. The only certainty is the exhilarating promise of what comes next.
This concert is comprised of diverse dance styles, including jazz, classical and contemporary ballets, tap, modern works, and Arabic dance. Choreographers were challenged to either reinvestigate existing repertory or develop new work that pushed them creatively. Gretchen McLaine, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Artistic Director of this year's concert, noted, "We were thrilled to welcome back Clarence Brooks as our guest artist. Clarence created a modern piece for our dancers in 2021, and we thought it was fitting with the season theme for him to return four years later, this time with a contemporary ballet."
