The College of Charleston Department of Music’s 2nd Monday Concert Series returns to its home in the Recital Hall of the newly renovated Simons Center for the Arts. The series is a showcase held every second Monday of the month featuring a variety of performances by faculty-artists of the Department of Music. The series previously had been in full swing until complications due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the venue renovation brought it to a temporary halt in February 2020.
The first showcase since the series’ hiatus will take place on October 14 and will highlight the College’s voice faculty, with performances by sopranos Amanda Castellone, Saundra DeAthos-Meers and Megan Warburton; tenor Harold Meers; baritone David Templeton; and pianist Lorna Baker. The artist-scholars are active performers in the local community, as well as the national and international concert scene. Each artist will perform operatic and song literature repertoire that is meaningful to them as performers and teachers, including works by Verdi, Puccini, Strauss, Rodgers & Hammerstein and others.
The Voice concert is the inaugural professional performance in the upgraded Recital Hall. Michael O'Brien, Chair of the Department of Music, shares, “Our performers and audiences alike will enjoy updated technology with improved lighting and sound in this space. New seating will keep patrons comfortable as they enjoy concerts performed by our own esteemed faculty as well as accomplished guest artists."
Other performances in the 2nd Monday Series include a November recital by Spartina Consort that specializes in Renaissance and Baroque period music, as well as a faculty jazz concert in February.
