Last Stop on Market Street, the heartwarming children’s story by Matt de la Peña and illustrated by Christian Robinson, makes its musical theatrical debut at the historic Dock Street Theatre on Feb. 1 and Feb. 8. Adapted for the stage, this poignant tale of connection, gratitude, and community promises to enchant audiences of all ages.
Presented by Charleston Stage, Last Stop on Market Street follows young CJ and his Nana as they take a bus ride through their vibrant city. Along the way, CJ learns to see beauty in unexpected places, thanks to Nana’s wisdom and the colorful characters they meet. The stage adaptation brings this touching journey to life through dynamic performances, vivid set designs, and original music and lyrics by Lamont Dozier and Paris Ray Dozier inspired by the book’s themes.
Directed by Rylee Coppel, with a script adapted by Cheryl L. West, this production captures the heart and soul of the Newbery Medal-winning book while adding a theatrical flair that promises to delight fans and newcomers alike.
