Charleston Planetarium, a new nonprofit dedicated to astronomical education and immersive experiences, will officially open its doors at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Following two years of fundraising and planning, and two months of successful soft-opening operations, owner Paul Gangarosa and director Thomas Martinez are ready to welcome the public to the plaentarium.
Highlights of the Grand Opening include:
- Ribbon Cutting by the West Ashley Chamber of Commerce (11:30 - 12 p.m.)
- Facility Tours & Photo Opportunities at 11:45 a.m.
- First Dome Show & Live Presentation at 12 p.m.
- Raffles, Kids' Activity Tables, Face Painting beginning at 12:45 p.m.
- New Show Demonstrations & 360° Movie Previews throughout the day
Separate attractions will include:
- Multi-Exhibit Museum
- Gift Shop Grand Reveal
- Brochures & Educational Materials
Charleston Planetarium features a 7-meter inflatable dome seating 40, six rotating shows, surround sound, and live interactive astronomy presentations after each screening. All dome presentations run approximately 45 minutes. Programming includes field trips, birthday celebrations, and private events.
