Charleston Crafts Gallery, an artist-owned cooperative in the heart of downtown Charleston, will present its April exhibition, Fancy & Floral, opening with a public reception on Friday, April 3, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Fancy & Floral explores themes of adornment, color and botanical inspiration across a range of materials and techniques. From intricate jewelry and fiber work to sculptural ceramics, wood and paper art, the exhibition highlights contemporary craft and the skill behind each medium.
Featuring original work by the gallery’s member artists, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of fine craft and art reflecting the individuality and creative voices of the cooperative. Featured artists include:
- Gini Steele, a textile artist creating contemporary knit and crochet accessories that explore color and texture through both modern and traditional techniques.
- Lynne Gettelfinger, a fiber artist who creates art quilts, wearable art and one-of-a-kind home décor pieces.
- Ron Herzog, a wood artist who creates detailed imagery using the traditional woodworking technique of intarsia.
- Regina Semko, a paper artist who creates intricate sculptures and decorative works using traditional origami techniques and patterned papers.
- Angie Brown, a ceramic artist creating richly textured vessels and sculptural forms inspired by organic shapes and the natural world.
- Jennifer Brower, a jeweler known for intricate wire-woven pieces inspired by the flowing lines of Art Nouveau and the geometry of Art Deco design.
The opening reception will take place during the Charleston Gallery Association’s ArtWalk, a monthly evening celebrating the visual arts in downtown Charleston. Visitors are encouraged to include Charleston Crafts Gallery as part of their ArtWalk experience while exploring the city’s galleries and creative spaces.
