The Charleston Climate Coalition will stage The Trial of Dominion Energy, a mock public theater performance exploring the utility company’s alleged environmental and social “crimes,” on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. at Silver Hill Studio, 4268 Spruill Ave.
The performance will feature a mix of fictional characters and real advocates serving as “witnesses” in a theatrical courtroom setting. Through testimony and creative storytelling, the production will address topics including health impacts, ecological damage, climate pollution, and rising energy costs that critics say have burdened Lowcountry residents.
“Dominion Energy makes a lot of decisions that hurt us and our natural landscape in the name of profit,” said Belvin Olasov, director of the Charleston Climate Coalition. “We think the trial will be a fun, creative way to hold them accountable.”
The event is part of the coalition’s ongoing opposition to Dominion’s proposed Edisto River Gas Plant and pipeline project, which would build one of the largest gas plants in the nation on the banks of the Edisto River and add a new pipeline through the ACE Basin to serve the facility and future industrial development.
The Trial of Dominion Energy is free and open to the public. The event will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
