Caliente Ballroom hasannounced the grand opening of its brand-new, 4,200 sq. ft. studio. Designed with dancers in mind, the state-of-the-art facility combines professional instruction with a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for the entire community.
The new studio features 2,700 sq. ft. of premium beech wood floors imported from Denmark provided by Benji Smith with Dance Floor USA and expertly installed by Dave Helmuth of Floors Anywhere. The floating wood dance floor, made with 12-foot-long boards, creates a smoother surface, reduces joint impact, and supports effortless movement—resulting in a floor that feels as good as it looks: responsive, comfortable, and built for performance. The inviting setting is enhanced by vaulted ceilings, abundant natural light, expansive dance mirrors, and thoughtfully designed details that create an inspiring and welcoming environment for dancers of all levels.
Guests can look forward to a full range of dance programs and offerings, including:
- Private lessons tailored to your goals
- Group classes for all skill levels
- Wedding and special event choreography
- Workshops with expert instruction
- Competitive dance training for serious dancers
- Social events to show off your moves
- Ballet summer camp for children ages 4-8
“This studio is about bringing people together through dance,” said Lynda Crowell Byrd, Charleston-based entrepreneur and driving force behind the studio’s development. “It’s a space to connect, move, and celebrate together. Our dance family now has a beautiful studio to call home.”
Founded in 2019 by Artur Malakyan, a lifelong dancer, international competitor, and choreographer from Yerevan, Armenia, Caliente Ballroom has become a hub for creativity, connection, and performance. Malakyan choreographs all routines for the studio’s annual showcases and provides private lessons, competitive training, and group instruction across a variety of Latin and ballroom styles.
Caliente Ballroom brings the passion, precision, and international perspective in all forms of ballroom dance to Charleston. Led by Artur Malakyan, the studio emphasizes joyful movement, community engagement, and professional instruction for dancers of all ages and skill levels.
Caliente Ballroom invites the Charleston community to celebrate the opening, explore the new space, and enjoy all programs, events, and social dance opportunities. Classes are now open for registration, and to celebrate, we’re offering special packages all spring long.
