Brookgreen Gardens is pleased to announce a captivating lineup of September events, including the beloved Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival, the annual Fall Plant Sale brimming with botanical treasures, and a five-night musical celebration honoring The Beach Boys.
In addition to its events, Brookgreen will offer a diverse array of educational lectures and workshops throughout the month, covering topics ranging from floral arranging and photo editing to Pawleys Island history and seaweed. The Harmony in Nature series will also continue, featuring programs designed to help guests deepen their connection with the outdoors. 17th Annual African American Fiber Art Exhibition: Celebrating Black Music, Now – Sept. 29, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Join Brookgreen in celebrating the profound impact of Black Music through the extraordinary creativity of African American fiber artists. This unique exhibition, curated by award-winning textile artist Torreah "Cookie" Washington, provides African American fiber artists an opportunity to showcase their original and innovative designs executed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional fiber techniques.
Southern Food Ways, Now – Sept. 30, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Brookgreen has extended this popular exhibit and pop-up shop that explores the distinctive flavors, techniques, and stories that define Southern cuisine. Held every Tuesday, exhibition related events feature various tastings, presentations, and more from local and regional authors, food entrepreneurs, and farmers.

Art of the American West, Now – Oct. 20, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The art of the American West captures the spirit, landscapes, and cultural history of the western United States. It includes depictions of vast prairies, rugged mountains, and iconic imagery such as cowboys, Native Americans, and frontier life. The art serves not only as a visual record of history but also as a means to explore themes of adventure, expansion, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. This exhibit includes paintings, sculptures, art prints, jewelry, textiles, and other objects representative of the American West.

Art After Hours, Sept. 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, 5 – 8 p.m.
Experience an evening of art and dining in the Gardens with Brookgreen's extended hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the fall. Visitors can enjoy the Art of the American West and Southern Food Ways exhibits and indulge in dinner at Harvest Restaurant.
Brookgreen Labyrinth Walk, Sept. 11, 22, 1 – 3 p.m.
The labyrinth at Brookgreen Gardens is available to walkers any time the Gardens are open, but on Patriot's Day, Brookgreen will hold a group walk to remember and honor the heroes of Sept. 11.
Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival, Sept. 14, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Brookgreen's Gullah Geechee Junkanoo Festival is a vibrant celebration of West African, Caribbean, and Gullah Geechee heritage. It will feature presentations, African drumming and dancing, children's crafts, delicious food tastings by Chef B.J. Dennis from Charleston, and more. Inspired by the Bahamian Junkanoo festival, this celebration highlights the rich cultural connections of the African Diaspora.
Constitution Day, Sept. 17, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Carolina Gold Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the event will include a processional march, Revolutionary War reenactors, and free copies of the Constitution.
Dirt N' Details: Heron, Grouse, and Loon with Jason Flynn, Sept. 19, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Brookgreen Gardens' horticulturist Jason Flynn will lead a tour surrounding Heron, Grouse, and Loon. Flynn will discuss South Carolina native plants, the South Carolina Geological Garden, native plant design, and how this can benefit the ecosystem at large.
Brookgreen Gardens Fall Plant Sale, Sept. 21, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This annual sale gives attendees the opportunity to take home their very own piece of Brookgreen's botanical wonderland. Guests can choose from an array of native plants that have been propagated on the property, with many originating from mother plants located within the Gardens. Offerings include shrubs, perennials, annuals, and more. Brookgreen's expert horticulturists will be on-site to answer any questions.
Tribute to The Beach Boys, Sept. 25 – 29, 7:30 – 9 p.m.
For five unforgettable nights, Brookgreen will come alive with the sounds of the 1960s as the Here Comes The Sun Band pays tribute to The Beach Boys. This talented group of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, featuring Dustin Brayley, Ryan Guerra, Paul Babelay, Eric Anthony, and Ryan Dunn, will capture the spirit of the iconic California sound.
