Former politicians in the recent History of South Carolina owned large scale business corporations and had money passed down from past generations. These businesses were tied to earlier members of their family that were passed on to later members of their family that were children of politicians; or members of their business family that even became politicians themselves in their own right.
These real estate ventures, wealth, and business net worth money checks was even passed on to later members of their family. There are three politicians that had corporate business influence in their family passed down from generations in the past. These include Former governor and US Congressman Mark Sanford from the Charleston area, Former South Carolina governor Carroll Campbell from Greenville, and Former Lt. governor Bob Peeler and State Senator Harvey Peeler from Gaffney.
Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford had business interests tied to his family, and his family owned Coosaw Plantation in Beaufort county. His father purchased the Coosaw Plantation back in 1965 and let his son Governor Sanford manage the land. Also Former governor Sanford founded Norton and Sanford Real estate investment back in 1992. Former governor Mark Sanford said about his years in South Carolina government, "I didn't say no to the taxpayer."
Former governor Carroll A Campbell who served as Governor from 1986 to 1994 family along with his partners and his sons once operated and owned a chain of 13 Burger King restaurants and 19 Wendy's restaurants throughout South Carolina. Governor Carroll Campbell also co-founded a successful chain of parking facilities the Handy Park parking company at the age of 19.
Also Lieutenant governor Bob Peeler along with his brother State Senator Harvey Peeler once owned the Peeler Jersey Farms Inc. This prominent dairy processor farm corporation was founded back in 1919. It was a multi generation business firm founded by Jasper Peeler and passed on to Senator Harvey Peeler and Lt governor Bob Peeler's father Smith Peeler. The Peeler Jersey Farms company was sold to the Italian company Parmalet in 1998.
It is wonderful that a Former politician can pass down an inheritance to their children and grandchildren; and when a politician comes from money that is a stepping stone and a great incentive card for their children to succeed greatly in the political world as politicians in their own right. These three politicians Carroll Campbell, Mark Sanford, and Bob Peeler had great businesses that served South Carolina well. And they even made a name for themselves in the business world even before they became powerful politicians.
