To the Editor:
Ashley Jones’ recent column put into words what so many South Carolina families feel but rarely say out loud, when it comes to our children’s safety, there is no room for delay.
For parents, the idea of a child being in danger is unthinkable. But when those situations do arise, whether it’s an abduction or another serious threat, the reality is that time is of the essence. Law enforcement must be able to act immediately, follow every lead and move quickly before a situation becomes even more tragic.
As Jones highlighted, tools like license plate reader technology can play a critical role in those moments. In many cases, a vehicle is the only clue investigators have. The ability to identify that vehicle quickly can help officers locate suspects faster, protect victims and, in the most urgent cases, bring a child home safely.
This isn’t about technology for technology’s sake, it’s about using every available resource to protect South Carolina’s children and give families the peace of mind they deserve.
That should be something we can all agree on.
