The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is proud to announce that it has been reaccredited by the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME), reaffirming that its operating policies, procedures, and practices are within the international guidelines.
In IACME’s notification, Executive Director John Fudenberg wrote in part, “The Accreditation Auditors made it clear the Charleston County Coroner’s Office makes every effort to continue providing the highest level of service to the citizens, neighbors, and visitors of Charleston County…The IACME is proud to say the Charleston County Coroner’s Office is a great representation of what our association expects from an accredited office.”
The five-year reaccreditation process includes a review of 285 standards including administrative, forensic, investigative, and facility review. The IACME requires 100 percent compliance with mandatory standards and 90 percent of all applicable standards, and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office achieved 100 percent compliance in both categories.
“I am so proud of our team here at Charleston County Coroner’s Office for their diligence in providing compassionate and professional service to decedents and their loved ones,” said Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal. “This reaccreditation is proof of their dedication to this field of work and to holding themselves and each other to a high standard to provide Charleston County with the best service possible.”
This is the second IACME accreditation for Charleston County Coroner’s Office. Their initial accreditation was achieved in 2015.
