Bat Out of Hell – The Musical, featuring the music of Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf, will take the stage at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center for one night only on May 16.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. and will be available online at Ticketmaster.com and at the North Charleston Coliseum advance ticket office.
The production features a cast of singers, dancers and actors, accompanied by an eight-piece rock band, performing some of the most iconic songs in rock history. The reimagined, award-winning show promises a high-energy theatrical experience built around Steinman’s signature sound.
Bat Out of Hell – The Musical won the U.K.’s Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical at the Evening Standard Awards and was nominated for eight WhatsOnStage Awards, including Best New Musical.
The show has played to audiences around the world, including runs at the Manchester Opera House, London Coliseum, London’s Dominion Theatre, Toronto’s CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre and New York City Center. It has also toured internationally, with performances in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, along with a residency in Las Vegas.
Critics have praised the production, with The New York Times calling it “extravagant, absurd, compulsively hummable,” while TheaterMania urged audiences to “see it while you can.”
The musical is based on the best-selling Bat Out of Hell albums, which have sold more than 68 million copies worldwide. Songs featured in the production include “Bat Out of Hell,” “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” “It’s All Coming Back to Me” and “I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” along with the previously unreleased track “What Part of My Body Hurts the Most.”
Set in a dystopian city, the story follows a group of rebellious youth known as the Lost as they clash with ruler Falco. When Falco’s daughter Raven meets the fearless leader Strat, their love-at-first-sight connection threatens to upend both of their worlds.
The production features a creative team led by director Jay Scheib, with book, music and lyrics by Steinman.
The North American tour is produced by Michael Cohl, Tony Smith and David Sonenberg, with executive producers Glenn Orsher and Julian Stoneman.
