Charleston has been paying to look at the unseen for a long time. Ghost tours leave from downtown most nights, and the fortune-teller's table has been a street-fair fixture here for generations. Most of that curiosity now happens by text. Instead of climbing the stairs to a reading room off King Street, people open an app and start typing. This guide reviews five of the best psychic readings chat platforms: how a text session runs, what it costs by the minute, who gives free minutes, and where each one is weak.
Quick Pick
The five best psychic readings online chat services below, in brief.
- Nebula: best for starting fast; tarot, astrology, numerology, mediumship, and palmistry; 3 free minutes plus 80% off for new customers.
- California Psychics: best for screened advisors; phone and text readings on love, career, and life path; $20 rewards credit.
- Psychic Source: best for mediumship; chat, phone, and video; up to 20 minutes credited back after a poor reading.
- Keen: best for a big roster; chat and phone; 3 free minutes with every advisor you have not read with before.
- Spiritual Blossom: best for low entry rates; chat, phone, video, and SMS; new-customer benefits on its site.
How Psychic Chat Readings Work
A chat reading is a private text conversation with an advisor, billed per minute while the window stays open. You pick someone from a roster or let the platform match you after a few intake questions, then send an opening message. The advisor replies in the same thread, usually asking questions back.
Most platforms run on prepaid credit, so the balance drops as you type. Compared with a phone call, live psychic chat is slower, which suits people who want to reread an answer before replying, or who cannot talk out loud. You keep a transcript. An online psychic chat is a space to think out loud; for medical, legal, or mental-health decisions, you want someone licensed in that field.
How We Picked
We weighed four things a skeptical first-timer cares about.
- Advisor vetting. Whether the platform screens applicants or runs an open marketplace, and how many chat psychics are online at typical hours.
- Rate transparency. Whether the per-minute price sits on the profile before a session starts.
- What happens if a reading falls flat. Credit, reconnection, refund, and the deadline.
- Free minutes. Whether a new user can test a reader without paying.
We also read each platform's Trustpilot page and threads in Reddit's r/Psychic.
1. Nebula
Nebula is a psychic and astrology platform built around chat, and it stands out for how quickly you can start. More than 900 advisors work there across tarot, astrology, numerology, palmistry, and mediumship. Every profile lists experience, consultation count, rating, and the per-minute price before you open a psychic chat session; many rates sat at $4.99 a minute when we checked. Stated vetting covers the application, communication style, and, in some cases, a simulated session. Nebula also runs a subreddit, r/ask_nebula.
- Pro: 900+ advisors, so specialist requests are easy to fill.
- Pro: free minutes carry a discount into the first paid block.
- Con: the credit-plus-subscription billing confuses some reviewers.
Trustpilot: 4.3 stars across more than 17,000 reviews.
2. California Psychics
California Psychics has run since 1995 and leans hardest on screening. Sessions happen by phone or text chat, with no video option. It says it accepts roughly 2% of applicants, a figure raised often in Quora answers on legitimate psychic sites. Advisors sit in price tiers, filterable by topic, tool, and reading style, and Karma Rewards adds a $20 credit plus points you can redeem for talk time. Contact customer care within 24 hours of a poor reading, and you are reconnected with another advisor free.
- Pro: the tightest published screening standard here.
- Pro: a reconnection policy with a stated deadline.
- Con: the guarantee pays in credit, and top-tier rates climb steeply.
Trustpilot: 4.1 stars across roughly 3,800 reviews.
3. Psychic Source
Psychic Source is the pick for mediumship or a face-to-face session, since it runs video alongside text and phone. Advisors cover clairvoyant work, tarot, and psychic medium chat with tools and style listed on each profile. A callback scheduler holds your place when a favorite reader is busy, and the no-risk guarantee returns up to 20 minutes of any paid reading you were unhappy with. Trustpilot reviewers often describe years with one reader; the common complaint is rates rising once introductory pricing ends.
- Pro: three session formats, unusual at this size.
- Pro: a 20-minute make-good across all three.
- Con: a small Trustpilot sample for its age, so patterns are hard to read.
Trustpilot: 3.9 stars across 982 reviews.
4. Keen
Keen carries the largest roster here and suits people who want to compare readers before booking. Live since 1999, it runs as an open marketplace: advisors set their own rates and hours across more than 20 categories, including love, tarot, astrology, and mediums. Keen's advisor app states the platform has hosted over 40 million conversations.
- Pro: the widest selection of advisors, with ratings on every profile.
- Pro: free minutes reset with each new reader.
- Con: as an open marketplace it screens less tightly than the tiered services, so check profile ratings before booking, as r/Psychic posters advise.
Trustpilot: about 4.1 stars across roughly 900 reviews.
5. Spiritual Blossom
Spiritual Blossom is the smallest platform here and competes on price and format choice. Readings run over chat, phone, video, and SMS, and you can connect with a reader who is online or schedule for later. Filters cover specialty, price, availability, and rating, with a matching quiz if you would rather not browse. Support is staffed around the clock.
- Pro: four session formats, including SMS, unique in this group.
- Pro: entry rates at the low end of this group.
- Con: the smallest review base here, so there is less client feedback to judge a reader by.
Trustpilot: 4.8 stars across 265 reviews.
How to Try a Psychic Chat for Free
Every platform here gives new users something free, in short blocks by design. Nebula and Keen each start you with three minutes, and Keen resets that allowance for each new advisor you try.
You can find free psychic chat online on most of these sites without paying upfront, though a free psychic reading online chat no credit card experience is rarer than the phrase suggests: several ask for a card at registration and charge nothing until you add funds. When live psychic chat free minutes run out, and the session stops or rolls onto your paid balance, so check that setting first. Three minutes buys one focused question, not a life overview.
What It Costs
Chat readings are billed per minute at a rate the advisor sets and the platform shows upfront. On Nebula, many sat at $4.99 a minute when we checked, and cheaper readers turn up if you filter for them. California Psychics and Keen both use tiers, where a newer reader costs a fraction of what a long-listed one does. Phone and chat are often priced differently on the same site, which is why cheap psychic phone chat deals usually appear as introductory bundles. Psychic Source and Spiritual Blossom publish rates on their own sites.
Where to Start
For the widest choice of practices with the least friction, start with Nebula. If screening matters most, California Psychics. For mediumship or video, Psychic Source. The best psychic readings chat service for you is whichever one gives free minutes with a reader you click with. Spend that block on one specific question, note what the advisor gets right, then decide. Staying skeptical costs nothing and is a reasonable place to begin.
