With new restaurants constantly opening in the Holy City, it’s easy to forget about the many businesses that have closed their doors for good.

To help you keep things straight, Holy City Sinner has compiled a list of restaurants that shuttered in 2023 (click here to see lists from past years).

  • 3 Matadors Tequileria (West Ashley)
    • 2447 Ashley River Road
    • The original location reopened in January as No Bull Burger Bar, but they plan to open a new 3 Matadors Tequileria location at the end of 2023

  • Bistro A Vin (Downtown)
    • 40 Archdale Street
    • Becoming Azur Events, a private event space
      • A sister concept, Azur, will open at 159 Market Street (former home of Cafe Framboise)

  • Bonny’s Hideaway (Downtown)
    • Closed in January
    • 549 King Street
    • Bonny’s Hideaway was a tiki-inspired pop-up concept that opened in summer of 2022 as a limited-time concept by James Walsh, Jim McCourt, and the team behind downtown restaurant and bar Prohibition
    • The space is being renovated and turned into Hazel and Apple

  • Cabana Burgers & Shakes (Mt Pleasant)
    • Closed in Janaury
    • 2664 U.S. Highway 17
    • Posted a notice on its website and its doors that said it “will be closed until future notice due to staff shortage”

  • The Gathering Cafe (West Ashley)
    • Closed in February, but reopened in Summerville (100 Central Ave.)

  • Kiki & Rye (Mt. Pleasant)
    • Closed and reopened as a new concept (BarPizza) from the same team (Free Reign Restaurants)
    • 656G Long Point Road (in the Belle Hall Shopping Center)

    • 4430 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy
      • Will be replaced by Periwinkle Kitchen & Juice Bar

    • Closed in April 16th
