Special Exhibition Celebrating Geoff Nuttall to be held During Spoleto 2023
Eight large photographs will be presented along the park’s southern edge. Each image was taken by longtime Festival photographer William Struhs during the 2021 season. Struhs, who has photographed every Festival since the inaugural event in 1977, captured rare, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the illustrious violinist at work and with friends. At the Festival, Nuttall was known for his indefatigable enthusiasm and musical passion, camaraderie with colleagues, and virtuosic playing. The photographs reflect his signature swagger, irreverence, and immense love for the art form. Audience members familiar to the chamber music series will recognize other artists featured, including Inon Barnatan, David Byrd-Marrow, Christopher Costanza, Owen Dalby, Pedja Muzijevic, Lesley Robertson, Livia Sohn, and Alisa Weilerstein.
“I’m so looking forward to viewing this exhibition commemorating Geoff’s incredible life at Spoleto—his work as a leader, friend, virtuoso performer,” said Mena Mark Hanna, General Director & CEO. “We are grateful to our longtime Festival photographer Bill Struhs who captured Geoff so intimately and beautifully, and we are grateful to Theodora Park for making this public gallery possible, so that our entire community can experience Geoff’s indelible impact.”
Located at the corner of Anson & George Streets, Theodora Park faces Gaillard Center, where Spoleto Festival USA’s ‘Celebrating Geoff Nuttall’ concert will open the Festival on Friday, May 26th at 7 pm. Tickets for the performance are still available; tickets as well as program information can be found at spoletousa.org.
