Reggae Nights Summer Concert Series Kicks Off on June 2nd at James Island County Park
Charleston County Parks kicks off the 2023 Reggae Nights Concert Summer Series at James Island County Park on Friday, June 2nd. The first concert of the four-part series will feature reggae band Equal Rights.
Gates open at 7:30 pm and music begins at 8 pm. Event gates will close to incoming traffic at 10:30 pm and music will end at 11 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for seating in the meadow at James Island County Park.
Charleston’s own Equal Rights consists of founding members Kay Speed, bassist and vocals; her brother Al Brooks, keys and vocals; and front-man Mike Godfrey, trumpet and vocals. They’re joined by guitarist Gerald Griffin and Leroy Harper on drums. Equal Rights features classic roots reggae covers and originals that reveal these skilled instrumentalists and highlights the founding trio’s vocal harmonies.
