Amor Healing Kitchen Hosting Family Fun 5K Run/Walk at Woodland Nature Reserve

On April 29th, Amor Healing Kitchen will host The 5Kale Yeah!, a 5K run/walk, at the Woodlands Nature Reserve. This family-friendly event is open to runners, walkers, and anyone who loves spending time outdoors. Following the run there will be live music, local vendors and food trucks.

The run/walk starts at 10 am, pre-run Yoga at 9:15 am and the 5k for the kids at 11:15 am. Participants can register online here up until April 28th. The registration fee is $35 until April 1st, after that it increases to $40. Kids aged 10 and under are free.

“We believe in the strong connection between our food and our health,” said Maria Kelly, founder and executive director of Amor Healing Kitchen. “Our goal is to support people in our community facing critical health challenges with nutritious, plant-based meals. We do this by supporting local farmers, engaging teen volunteers and working to educate everyone on the benefits of plant-based eating, which not only aids in the recovery from illnesses but also helps optimize our health, prevent disease, and improve our quality of life.”

This event strives to be a zero-waste experience, so attendees are encouraged to bring their water bottle and beer mug as well as blanket  chairs and friends to enjoy a day of outdoor fun along with plant-based food, beer and live music. All proceeds from the 5Kale Yeah! fundraiser will go directly to support the AMOR Healing Kitchen and its mission. Donations will help the organization continue to provide nutritious meals to those in need and educate the community on the benefits of a plant-based diet.

The Woodlands Nature Reserve is located at 4279 Ashley River Road. Click here for more info about the event.

Amor Healing Kitchen is a Charleston-based nonprofit that provides nourishing, plant-based meals to people experiencing critical health challenges. The organization is committed to bringing the community together around the healing power of food. The meals are based on seasonal produce donated by local farmers, stores, and the Charleston Parks Conservancy and prepared by high school volunteers who learn about cooking, nutrition and the power of service. Founded in 2018, the group has expanded from the weekly food deliveries and now offers a grab and go option and community cooking classes.  It relies on the support of volunteers, donors and partners to help make a positive impact.
