Charleston County’s Public Safety Directorate Hosts Counterterrorism Threat Conference
Charleston County’s Public Safety Directorate hosted a three-day conference with more than 200 business and local and federal law enforcement leaders from around the country for discussions on domestic terrorism, critical infrastructure threats, and terrorists use of the internet. Keynote speakers included Charleston County Council Vice Chairwoman Jenny Costa Honeycutt, U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel.
Here are some quotes from those that attended:
“Charleston County leaders understand that safety begins with effective communication and collaboration and homeland security begins with hometown security,” said Charleston County Council Vice Chairwoman Jenny Honeycutt. “That is why we are thrilled to host agency partners and community stakeholders for this 2023 Palmetto Homeland Conference.”
“This conference has been a great example of how our local, state, and federal partners collaborate and share information to keep Charleston County safe for our residents and visitors. Attended by over two hundred people from various agencies and industries, the conference was very successful, and I thank everyone involved for their work in making this happen,” said Deputy County Administrator of Public Safety Eric Watson.
“The Palmetto Homeland Security Conference showcased some of our best and brightest South Carolina leaders and innovators keeping us all safe. As Chairwoman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Informational Technology and Government Innovation, we look forward to working with all our federal agencies to ensure we keep our country and our communities safe,” said Congresswoman Nancy Mace.
“As Chief of SLED and the state’s Homeland Security Advisor my number one priority is keeping the citizens of South Carolina safe. This wouldn’t be possible without the strong relationships we have in this state between local, state, and federal public safety personnel. It takes cooperation and timely intelligence sharing between all our partners to accomplish this goal,” said Chief Keel.
