During last night’s inaugural meeting of Charleston City Council for 2023, Council unanimously approved Mayor John Tecklenburg's recommendation of District Three Councilman Jason Sakran (right with family) to serve as the city’s new mayor pro tempore, following a recognition of the outgoing mayor pro tempore, District Five Councilman Karl L. Brady, Jr.
By ordinance, the city’s mayor pro tempore “shall act as mayor, during the sickness or temporary absence of the mayor.” By tradition, the mayor pro tempore also often represents the mayor at public events when the mayor is unable to attend.
