Press Release from Charleston County
Charleston County Government offices, including the downtown Judicial Complex, and all Charleston County Public Library branches will be closed Thursday, September 28 and Friday, September 29 as the County prepares for impacts from Hurricane Ian. The County has moved to OPCON 2, meaning a disaster is likely to impact Charleston County. According to the National Weather Service, the storm is currently predicted to bring four to six inches of rain, a storm surge up to six feet, coastal flooding, gusty winds, and possibly isolated tornadoes starting Thursday and into Saturday. “The time to prepare for this storm is now,” said Charleston County Emergency Management Director Joe Coates. “Flooding is a serious concern especially in low-lying areas with a history of flooding. Residents who live in those areas should consider relocating.”

Shelters:
- Pet Shelter
- 3841 Leeds Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
- Opens at 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 29.
- Dunston Elementary
- 1825 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
- Opens at noon on Thursday, September 29.
Shelter Transportation:
- Buses will run to shelters starting at 8 a.m. in downtown Charleston on Thursday, September 29. Pickups for the remainder of the County will begin at 10:30 a.m. Pickup points are designated with blue hurricane pickup signs. The location of hurricane stops are available in Charleston County's Hurricane Guide which can be found here.
Charleston County Parking Garages:
- Open to the public starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 29. All cars must be removed by noon by Sunday, October 2.
- Garages are located at 93 Queen Street and 90 Cumberland Streets in downtown Charleston.
Recycling:
- The Bees Ferry Landfill will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 29. The landfill will remain closed Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 and is scheduled to resume normal operations Monday, October 3.
- All staffed Charleston County Convenience Centers will close beginning Thursday, September 29 and are scheduled to resume normal operations on Monday, October 3.
- There will be no curbside recycling collections on Friday, September 30 or Saturday, October 1. If your recycling service day is Friday, September 30, your service will resume on Friday, October 14, your next scheduled service day.
Charleston County Libraries:
- Charleston County Public Library will close all branches and offices on Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30.
- Book drops and automated material returns will also be closed during this time. Patrons are asked to not leave items outside of the book drops.
DAODAS (The Charleston Center):
- All outpatient services are cancelled for Thursday and Friday.
- OTP will be open Thursday morning and will be giving take home doses for Friday and the weekend.
- Residential and Withdrawal Management is open but will not be taking any new admissions at this time.
- All services are scheduled to resume normal operations Monday.
Bond Court:
- On Thursday, September 29 bond court will be held at 10 a.m.
