Laura, the newest concept by French Master Chef Nico Romo (right), will open its doors on Wednesday, June 1st along Main Street in Summerville. Laura joins Nico Hospitality Group's existing portfolio of restaurants – NICO in Mt. Pleasant and Bistronomy in downtown Charleston.
“For NICO and Bistronomy, I've pulled culinary inspiration from my childhood in France and my classic French training,” Chef Romo said. “I'm excited to celebrate my Italian heritage and the huge impact that my grandmother's cooking continues to have on my food. My Italian grandmother taught me so much about flavors and ingredients, as well as the importance of hospitality even while at home. I'm excited to share some of my earliest experiences with food.”
The coursed menu at Laura will be available for lunch and dinner, and allows guests to create their own experience. The menu will include selections of Antipasti plates; Neapolitan Pizzas prepared in a wood-fire oven; “Primo” or Pasta dishes; “Secondo” dishes featuring simply prepared meats, poultry, and fish dishes; side dishes or “Contorno” are served family-style; and a selection of salads, cheeses, and classic Italian desserts, including a gelato service.
Laura’s 6,000 square foot space will include white table cloths accented with colorful, vintage-inspired glassware and dishes, weathered wood, leather chairs, and black-and-white family photos featuring the woman who inspired the concept, Romo's grandmother Laura. The full-service bar sits adjacent to the main dining room that offers a view of the kitchen and pizza oven. The outdoor patio area includes a full-service, 10-seat bar, as well as seated dining for 40 guests. The space also includes a large private dining area.
Upon opening, Laura will be open nightly for dinner. Weekend lunch and brunch services will be added in the weeks following opening. Bookings for the private dining area will also be available in the coming weeks. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
