South Carolina Local Writes Small Town Mystery Novel

Charleston resident and author Alana Sommers has released her debut novel, If You Don’t Tell, which explores how the past haunts the present for three women living in a small town.

Taking a deep dive into the standard practice of harboring past indiscretions, Sommers presents a story centered on three women in a small town whose lives are upended by a series of shocking revelations. In If You Don’t Tell, a twenty-five year old cold case of a missing girl and her mother is resurrected in a small island town, setting off an unexpected chain of events and uncovering a web of deceit and regret in the seemingly perfect lives of three friends. After making some startling connections, Beth, Sarah, and Mary Ellen discover that no one can ever really escape their past, especially in a small town. While shifting back and forth from past to present day, the novel unravels the mystery to reveal the truth about each intricately weaved narrative.

Seeking to entertain readers with a compelling plot and relatable characters, Sommers considers the risks of having skeletons in one’s closet.

“The story is full of twists and turns, as dark secrets are brought to light,” Sommers said. “On an island where everyone knows everyone and everything is connected, no one is safe.”

If You Don’t Tell is available for purchase online at Amazon.com.
