Dr. Annie Andrews, Lowcountry pediatrician and Democratic candidate for South Carolina’s First Congressional District, released the following statement calling on Rep. Nancy Mace to denounce Donald Trump’s plan to pardon the rioters behind the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol:
“On Saturday, former President Trump promised to pardon the criminals who, in an act of domestic terrorism, violently stormed the United States Capitol, assaulted our police officers, and attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Over 760 people have been arrested and charged with various crimes from their role in January 6th and more charges are undoubtedly on the way.
Today, I am calling on Congresswoman Nancy Mace to stop her double-talk on January 6th and forcefully denounce Donald Trump’s plan to pardon these violent traitors to our country.
In the Lowcountry, we support law enforcement and law and order. Any politician who would support pardoning the perpetrators of violent attacks on police do not deserve to hold any office, much less a seat in the United States Congress.
Congresswoman Mace has taken so many positions on January 6th it’s impossible to keep them all straight. It’s time for her to clear the air and once and for all denounce Donald Trump and his insane plan to stand with violent criminals and against law enforcement.”
