Weekend Buzz: Fun Things To Do In Charleston This Weekend

We at Holy City Sinner thank you for your patronage and hope 2021 is an awesome year for our followers. We continue to provide you current news and helpful items that keep you up on the Holy City and provide information that might be useful to our followers. 

This is a busy weekend. But please check with venues in case weather or anything else cancels any of the following. 

Thankfully the entertainment community is beginning to make a comeback. Movie theaters are opening. More clubs and night spots are offering live music. Soon the playhouses will be up and running. It’s time to start getting back out there and enjoy the weekend and all the nightlife the Holy City has to offer. We are Holy City Sinner will keep you up on as much as we can. Have fun and stay safe. Please double check with venues before venturing out, since things change so quickly.  Many clubs have mask or proof of vaccination requirements, so be aware!

Christmas Made In The South returns this weekend to the Ladson Exchange Park. As Christmas time approaches what better way to get ready for the holiday season than to stroll the aisles for treasures at this year’s award winning 28th annual event. This nationally acclaimed event is a fantastic way to ease into your holiday shopping and find that special holiday gift for that “hard to shop for” friend. Christmas Made in the South is focused on keeping the world of fine arts and crafts vibrant. Exhibitors will be there, Fri-Sun demonstrating and selling their handcrafted works, Santa’s elves hard at work. Fri. 10-6 – Sat. 10-6 – Sun. 11-5

The annual Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park runs Nov 12th thru Dec 31st. There’s so much to discover at the Holiday Festival of Lights! The Flowertown Players offer up a holiday treat beginning this weekend. Opening Black Friday ‘It’s A Wonderful Life A Live Radio Play’. Travel back in time to 1940’s radio station where the ensemble cast bring to life various characters from the iconic holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Complete with a couple of foley artists, a diligent stage manager and a cast of talented but unruly actors this clever presentation of the James Stewart classic will have you laughing and smiling with holiday cheer. It’s once again the holiday season and Mount Pleasant Towne Centre will ring in the holidays with its biggest event, Lights Up, live and in person again this season. On Friday, November 20th at 6 pm, Belk Drive will shine bright with a laser light show, plenty of activities, and the lighting of the 40-foot Christmas tree. For more visit

On Saturday from noon to 5 pm, the Firefly Distillery and the &Lobster Food Truck will be hosting the “Bring Your Own Shuckers Oyster Roast & Seafood Food Truck Festival.” The event will take place at the distillery’s headquarters in North Charleston. Sea Island Farmers Market presents their 2nd Annual Holiday Night Markets December 4th and December 18th from 4:30 to 8:00 pm. Both nights will have Food trucks for easy dinning and Funnel Cakes for – well fun! We will have 0ver 40 amazing local Artisans with their unique, handcrafted gift offerings. The 8th annual Homegrown Holiday Bazaar will be held Saturday at Johns Island County Park (2662 Mullet Hall Road) from 10 am to 3 pm. The event will include around 75 vendors, a Kiddie train ride, Horse Rides, Santa & Mrs. Claus visits, local food trucks, warm drinks, local craft beer, wine, and live music from local musician Jeep White. Activities for all ages including seasonal-themed games, crafts, Christmas card making, and bounce houses. Back by popular demand! After sold out performances in 2019, Elf The Musical returns to the Historic Dock Street Theatre! Based on the beloved and hilarious 2003 Will Ferrell film, Elf The Musical tells the story of Buddy, who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. Raised as an elf and unaware that he is actually a human. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his true identity. The North Charleston Coliseum complex is busy this weekend. At the PAC on Friday night enjoy chart-topping, GRAMMY®-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz as he returns to the road this holiday season with the 24th annual Dave Koz and Friends Christmas Tour 2021 with South African guitarist/singer Jonathan Butler, trumpeter Rick Braun, saxophonist Richard Elliot and introducing vocalist Rebecca Jade. Koz and Friends will perform fresh renditions of timeless Christmas classics – as well as a Chanukah medley! – and hits from their respective catalogs.

Saturday at the PAC enjoy Cirque Dreams Holidaze. Over 300 imaginative costumes, 20 world-class astonishing acts, the finest singers, original music, and seasonal favorites celebrate Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, and New Year’s in a 2-hour breathtaking spectacle. Audiences of all ages will marvel at soaring acrobatics, gravity-defying feats and extravagant theatrical production numbers. Two performances, 4pm and 8pm.

Sunday at 7:30pm the Charleston Gaillard Center presents UNDER THE STREETLAMP : Hip to the Holidays. In this special holiday show, Under the Streetlamp celebrates the season with rocking renditions of classic hits from the American radio songbook, plus music from their fan-favorite album Hip to the Holidays. Several city-wide holiday events taking place this weekend. The City of Charleston’s annual Christmas Parade takes place on Sunday. Come join in for this fun, high energy parade which will commence on Broad Street at Rutledge, travel North on Meeting Street, and conclude on Calhoun Street at Meeting Street. Participants include musical ensembles, clubs and organizations. Parade kicks off at 3pm. 

The North Charleston Christmas Festival & Parade takes place Saturday 4-8pm. Join them as they celebrate the season with kid’s activities, live music, hay rides, a petting zoo, visits with Santa Claus, a parade, festive food, and thousands of twinkling lights! Parade kicks off at 5pm, starting at the intersection of Mixson Avenue and East Montague Avenue, going around Park Circle, then heading back down East Montague Avenue towards the start. Musical Entertainment provided by DJ R Dot. The Charleston Caroling Company will be roving throughout the community center grounds in Victorian dress performing carols for festival goers. Visits with Santa will take place in the Felix Davis Auditorium following the parade (approx. 6pm) until the end of the festival (8:00pm).

The annual Hanahan Christmas Tree Lighting and Vendor Market takes place Friday night and Saturday. Vendor market runs 5-8pm Friday with tree lighting at 6pm at 3100 Mabeline Rd. The parade takes place Saturday morning beginning at 9am along Murray Drive.

Kickoff the holiday season in Goose Creek as the City’s Christmas tree is lit for everyone to see! Christmas in the Creek will feature holiday hayrides, holiday crafts, marshmallow roasting, photos with Santa, and LOTS more! The tree lighting will take place at 6:00 p.m. The Lakeside Light Display will be up throughout the month of December. On Saturday the 3rd Annual Goose Creek Holiday Festival sponsored by Goose Creek Farmers & Artisans Market takes place from 10-2pm at New Life Christian Fellowship at 350 Liberty Hall Rd. in Goose Creek.

The Charleston Holiday Market The Annual Holiday Market in Marion Square will be held on Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the first three weekends in December (December 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th). Come and enjoy a bounty of fresh local produce and homegrown creativity with additional holiday décor and gifts being sold by a variety of local producers. The Sound of Charleston – Holiday Edition takes place at Circular Congregational Church 150 Meeting Street. Come enjoy the music that is so much a part of Charleston’s rich history…from gospel spirituals, jazz, music of Gershwin to Civil War songs and light classics….all coming to life in weekly concerts at historic Circular Congregational Church. Charleston’s finest professional musicians present an unforgettable program that concludes with “Amazing Grace”, sung in the church where composer John Newton worshipped and received inspiration. Sunday The Regatta Inn on Folly Beach hosts the inaugural Flippers & Fur Fest. The event will be filled with family- and dog-friendly activities with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Folly Beach Turtle Watch Program and Pet Helpers. The waterfront event will take place from 12pm 5:30pm at the Regatta Inn’s outdoor event space, featuring including live music, a cornhole tournament, a yoga class, and a silent auction. Beer and wine selections will be available for sale along with Lowcountry Boil and Chili provided by Southern Bear Catering. Pet Helpers will be on-site with adoptable puppies and dogs, perfect holiday gifts. Folly Beach Turtle Watch Program will provide info on the organization’s efforts to protect local endangered sea turtle populations. Tickets $25 adults (drink & food voucher), under 12 free.

On Friday, December 3rd, downtown restaurant Park & Grove will open its parking lot for the final event in the Under the Stars series – a two day Holiday Market. The event’s hours are 5 pm to 8 pm on both evenings. Over a dozen Lowcountry artisans will be in attendance, from Salt & Stems to B.Minton’s to The Muffin Drop.  Music provided by Midwest Casual.

Sunday from 1pm-2pm at the Revelry Brewing Co. 10 Conroy Street enjoy a 1-hour tour guided by a knowledgeable Revelry staff member at two locations. Enjoy a draft pint at each location during the tour. Enjoy samples drawn directly from the fermentation tanks and Oak Feeders. Boone Hall Plantation is open with adjusted days and hours of operation. Currently Boone Hall Plantation is open Monday through Saturday – 9am-5pm and on Sunday – 12pm-5pm. One price includes all tours. Admission is $26 for ages 13-64. Seniors-AAA-Military tickets are $23 and Children 6-12 are $12. Pure Theatre continue their run of ‘Little Gem’. Three generations of women. One extraordinary year. Sex, birth, death, dildos and salsa classes. The Charleston City Night Market (Market Streets) is open this weekend. The marketplace is an exciting showcase of more than 100 talented artists and craftspeople that occurs every Friday and Saturday evening from March – December. The Night Market runs from 6:30 – 10:30 pm and is a free event that is open to the public.

If you just want to get out of the house their are of course city parks open as well as most area golf courses. Sunny days are welcome for walking the beach, bicycling, jogging, maybe tossing the frisbee, or getting in a round of golf. Check with golf courses for certain restrictions. Plus Park Circle in North Charleston offers a nice disc golf course.

Middleton Place, the ancestral home of two Founding Fathers and site of America’s oldest landscaped gardens, has reopened to the public. Ticket pricing has been revised, as well. Lowcountry Tri-County residents pay $26 while non-locals pay $29 per adult. However, if you purchase online, tickets are $20, a 30% discount that also allows for nearly contactless admission. After a year long hiatus Black Fedora Mystery Theater on the market (164 Church St.) is open. Get ready to laugh and have some real fun again. The re-opening day is Thursday May 27th. The world famous Windjammer on the Isle of Palms  in rockin’ this weekend. Friday night enjoy music from Kudzu Kings an alternative country/roots rock jam band from Oxford, Mississippi.Their sound has been categorized as a blend of country music, bluegrass and improvisational rock & roll.     I will definitely be checking out ‘Taste of Folly’ this weekend! I have also been wanting to try out Braised in the South’s new location over on Johns Island.
