Freddy’s Serving Up Awesome Old School Steakburgers & Thick Custard Shakes
Latest Location For Kansas Based Burger Chain Now Open In Oakbrook of Summerville
Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review
Freddy’s success story is one that mirrors the American dream. Founded in 2002 by brothers Bill (1955–2016) and Randy Simon, as well as restaurateur Scott Redler, the fast-casual restaurant chain was named for Bill and Randy’s father Freddy, a WWII veteran who died in 2020 at the ripe old age of 95.
Bill and Randy wanted to pay tribute to their father’s service, and create an eatery reminiscent of the burger joints popular in the 1950’s and 60’s. Fast forward 20 years and Freddy’s operates close to 400 restaurants in 33 states with the Summerville location one of the newest in the Freddy’s burger family.
Their buns are toasted, and like Goldilocks said three times they are just right. They are not hard and not crusty. The buns are warm and easy to wrap your teeth & gums around as you prepare to bite into a succulent burger. The Double California Steakburger comes oozing with thousand island dressing over American cheese, onion and tomato. It’s freakin’ awesome!
If you’ve never had a Chicago style hotdog, than I would highly recommend trying one at Freddy’s. A plump Vienna beef dog served on a split bun topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers and a dash of celery salt. The authentic Vienna hotdog makes all the difference. Ideal complement to their Shoestring Fries, Golden Onion Rings, or pop in your mouth Cheese Curds. Don’t want your dog so adorned, opt for the straight up Freddy’s Hotdog with your choice of condiments.
While they score high on quickness, don’t think for a minute they have several sandwiches waiting under a heat lamp, ready to dole out at a moments notice. That’s not the Freddy’s way! They cook everything when you order it. It’s hot, fresh, juicy, and most importantly, it taste great. Burgers served up the way you might prepare them on the grill, topped with your favorite veggies and condiments.
I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to their thick & creamy frozen custard. After all it is in their title, and like their signature burgers, Freddy’s custard creations are extraordinary. Think of frozen custard as ice creams sophisticated cousin, and whether you choose it in a sundae, a cone (waffle or cake), or as a thick milkshake to accompany a Freddy’s burger you can’t go wrong.
Freddy’s serves up several kids combos that no one under 10 years old would turn down. All their go to favorites including a burger (with or without cheese), hotdog, grilled cheese, or chicken tenders. All served with choice of fries, applesauce or Baked Lays chips. Safe to say, Freddy’s is not only adult friendly, they are kid friendly.
Maybe you’ll pay a dollar or two more at Freddy’s but your taste-buds will be happier, and you’ll remember your burger experience well beyond the lunch and dinner hour. If you live, work, or have reason to be in the Oakbrook of Summerville area, I recommend giving Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers a try.
