The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL), Charleston County School District (CCSD) and the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) have teamed up provide free meals and snacks at several library branches and outreach stops. The Summer Feeding program begins on Monday, June 21st at select CCPL branches and Mobile Library stops.
This program, which is in conjunction with CCSD’s Seamless Summer Feeding and LFB’s Summer Meals, provides free lunches or snacks to children and teens (ages 18 and younger) during the traditional summer vacation period.
Hot lunches are provided by the CCSD’s Nutrition Services Department for distribution at six CCPL branches Monday through Friday, and all meals meet federal meal pattern and nutritional requirements. Snacks are provided, courtesy of the LCFB, to three branches and three Mobile Library stops, while to LCFB also provides free lunch at the St. Paul’s Hollywood branch. There is no approval process required for participants to redeem free meals or snacks at the participating branches.
“Providing equitable access to vital resources is a key focus of CCPL, and we are thrilled to expand our Summer Feeding program to even more areas of the county through our Mobile Library,” said Devon Andrews, CCPL Associate Director, Community Engagement. “We are so grateful to our partners at CCSD Nutrition Services and Lowcountry Food Bank for making this program possible and helping us better serve the Charleston community.”
