PURE Theatre will return to live performances at the Battery Gadsden Cultural Center on Sullivan’s Island.
“We’re thrilled,” said Sharon Graci, PURE Theatre’s Artistic Director and the Director of Constellations, which will mark the company’s return to in-person performances since Cannon Street Arts Center closed to the public. “And to return with a play that we are constantly asked to bring back seems just about perfect.”
Constellations is a spellbinding, romantic journey that starts with a simple encounter between a man and a woman. But what happens next defies the boundaries of the world we think we know—delving into the infinite possibilities of their relationship and raising questions about the difference between choice and destiny.
Live performances will be offered in partnership with Battery Gadsden Cultural Center at Fort Moultrie, Atlantic Avenue, on Sullivan’s Island. The Cultural Center and PURE Theatre will take advantage of the unique and ambient setting of the historic garrison.
“Constellations is such a lyrical play. It’s filled with deep emotions, dreamy sequences, and lots and lots of love. Getting to see these three amazing artists perform this beautiful piece in an extraordinary setting is going to be really memorable,” says Graci.
Constellations received its Southeast Regional Premiere at PURE in 2016. This revival features the PURE production’s original cast of PURE Core Ensemble Members Camille Lowman and Paul Rolfes. Lowman recently filmed Shovels & Rope The Movie and performs regularly at Theatre 99. Recent television and film credits for Rolfes include Sweet Magnolias, Ashby, Tell Me a Story, Lodge 49, and Being Mary Jane. This critically acclaimed production also features an original score written and performed by Charleston singer/songwriter/composer Bill Carson.
Nick Payne is a playwright and screenwriter. His play If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet received the George Devine Award, and his play Constellations has played on Broadway and the West End and was nominated for an Olivier Award.
The Constellations creative team includes PURE Artistic Director Sharon Graci as Director, Richard Heffner as Scenic and Lighting Designer, and Miles Boinest as Stage Manager and Sound Designer.
Live performances will be held on the evenings of May 7 and 8 at 7:30 pm and 5:30 pm on May 9. Audience seating will be outdoors and socially distanced. Masks are required. Tickets to these shows are available via PURE Theatre’s website for $40.
In addition to three live performances at Battery Gadsden, Constellations will be offered virtually via a donate-what-you-will streaming link. Constellations will be available for streaming online from May 7, 2021 through May 22, 2021. Each streaming ticket holder will receive a unique viewing link that can only be used once.
Both live performance tickets for Constellations as well as donate-what-you-will for streaming links are on sale now at puretheatre.org and at the PURE Theatre box office. The show is also available through the PURE All-Access Flex Pass.
Additional information about Constellations and the All-Access Flex Pass can be found on PURE’s website at puretheatre.org or by calling the box office at 843-723-4444 (Tuesday through Friday 12 pm pm – 6 pm).
