Press Release
The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) is working to include the work of local authors in the library's collection of items that are borrowed. The library is opening the opportunity to authors and filmmakers through a new online submission form. All authors, filmmakers, and agents are eligible to submit a synopsis and sample of work for review. Preference will be given to works created by those living and working in South Carolina.
“This initiative has been years in the making, and we are so happy to provide space in our collection of books and movies for the local voices of our community,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “It is our mission to be inclusive in the offerings of our materials and this new initiative will help diversify our collection to include the work of our own community's writers and artists.”
To submit work for consideration, visit www.ccpl.org/author-filmmaker-submission-form. CCPL will apply the same selection and review standards used to purchase materials for all collections. This includes work that has been professionally proofread, edited, and critically reviewed by third-party objective sources.
CCPL will only accept submissions through the online Author/Filmmaker Submission Form. Submissions through any other method will not be considered and will be discarded. Submitting work does not guarantee the work will be included in the library's collection. Eligible authors or filmmakers who submitted an application will be contacted by CCPL and requested to provide a copy of the complete work for further evaluation. If CCPL chooses a title for the collection (i.e., the title passes both stages of the process), the library will purchase a copy.
