The College of Charleston has received top marks in the latest edition of the U.S. News Best Colleges 2021 rankings.
According to the report, the College was named the No. 8 top public college in the south, the No. 4 ranked college for veterans among southern institutions and the No. 5 best college for undergraduate teaching in the south. Last month, the College of Charleston was named a top school for undergraduate education by the The Princeton Review.
“We are especially proud that the College of Charleston continues to be nationally recognized for our commitment to quality education and we are grateful to be recognized by U.S. News and World Report for these accomplishments,” says Provost Suzanne Austin. “These accolades are confirmation to our campus community and prospective students and their families that there is immense value in a College of Charleston education.”
Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks hundreds of higher education institutions across the United States, judging universities on a wide array of metrics, including graduation rate, class size, student-faculty ratio, selectivity and resources for faculty. More recently, the list has placed greater emphasis on “social mobility,” measured through the graduation rate of Pell Grant recipients and the amount of debt that students graduate with.
U.S. News & World Report has published its Best Colleges rankings since 1983. According to its website, the rankings provide a starting point for families searching for the best academic value for their money and enables them to compare the relative quality of institutions based on such widely accepted indicators of excellence as freshman retention, graduation rates and the strength of the faculty.
