The team behind 5Church Charleston today announced that they plan to open Tempest in the Spring of 2020 inside the former historic Harriott Pinckney Home for Sailors located next door to the restaurant. The new downtown eatery will offer seafood for lunch and dinner from Lowcountry fisherman, oyster farmers, and other purveyors.
“Our hope is that Tempest will combine top-notch cuisine using locally sourced ingredients with innovative design and outstanding service to create an inspiring dining experience for our guests,” Owner Patrick Whalen said.
According to a press release, Tempest’s interiors will feature a handcrafted piece of workmanship to be displayed on the ceiling from a Charleston artist and seating for approximately 100 guests. There will be a main dining room, bar, an outdoor patio, and upstairs space available for private dining and events.
Partner and Top Chef alumni Jamie Lynch’s menu will reportedly include seafood cooked over charcoal paired with produce from Lynch’s new six-acre farm in Belmont, NC. Guests can also expect lobster, giant prawn, oysters, mussels, clams, white shrimp, and seafood towers. In addition to a wine list curated by Tempest’s in-house certified sommelier and a cocktail program focusing on classics, the new bar will also offer rotating, primarily local taps.
The Tempest website lists that the restaurant’s hours will be as follows:
- Sun – Sat: 11 am – 4 pm
- Sun – Sat: 5 pm – ?
