Park Circle’s Madra Rua Irish Pub was badly damaged Saturday in an early morning fire. Firefighters responded to the blaze around 4 am, but additional units were requested after they found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the building, according to North Charleston Fire Deputy Chief Stephanie Julazadeh.
Firefighters worked to gain control of the fire in the pub and an adjacent vacant commercial building with a residence on the second floor. A search was conducted in the vacant commercial building and an occupant on the second floor was rescued. In addition, two adjacent businesses were also significantly damaged by fire.
No injuries were reported but the Red Cross is assisting one resident who was displaced because of damage to the adjacent building utilities.
An investigation in to the cause of the fire is in progress.
Around noon on Saturday, Madra Rua updated their Facebook page with the following message:
“As most of you know earlier this morning your favorite Irish Pub in Park Circle caught on fire. We will be closed until further notice. We are most thankful that no one was injured or in the building. We appreciate all the love and support we have been receiving from our customers, family and friends. We would like to thank North Charleston Fire Department for all of their support and hard work.”
A GoFundMe has been created to help the staff at Madra Rua who will now be missing shifts. The money will go to the cooks, servers, managers, and bartenders to help with their immediate expenses and loss of income due to the fire. You can donate here.
